Chicago's Millenium Park Up and Running!
The weekend of July 16-18 witnessed the grand opening of Chicago's newest lakefront park. Located between Randolph and Monroe streets on Michigan Ave., planning began for the 24.5-acre park in 1997. Today it features two important additions to the Chicago music scene: the Harris Theater for Music and Dance and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion.
The Joan W. and Irving B. Harris Theater for Music and Dance is a 1,525 seating venue ideal for indoor performances. The 2004-2005 season lists performances presented by local arts organizations such as the Jazz Institute of Chicago and Fulcrum Point New Music Project.
The highlight of Millenium Park is the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. The Pavilion was designed by architect Frank Gehry and his innovative style dramatically marks the Chicago skyline. The Jay Pritzker Pavilion is a fascinating sight as stainless steel "ribbons" curl away from the stage. Seating is available for 4,000 and the lawn area can accomodate up to 7,000. In addition, a network of state-of-the-art speakers hangs above the lawn area in order to provide a truly unique, musical outdoor experience.
The Grant Park Music Festival has made its move to Millenium Park and is rounding off its 70th year in existence. For more information about Millenium Park visit: www.millenniumpark.org

2004 GFA Convention: October 24-30, Montréal
The 2004 Guitar Foundation of America convention will be held in beautiful Montréal, Canada.
As usual, a number of world-class musicians have been invited to perform and/or lecture. Among them:
Alvaro Pierri, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Pavel Steidl, Paul O'Dette, and the Canadian Guitar Quartet.
