| The Shadi or wedding is the cultural part of the wedding. This is when the bride leaves her house and goes to the groom's house. Many people have both the religious ceremony and the cultural ceremony together. We chose to have them seperate. Some of the traditions that occur at the wedding are that the bride's sisters/cousins steal the groom's shoe. T hey take it and then sell it back to him. This was done traditionally as an icebreaker between the two families . Another tradition that occurs is when the bride leaves she throws rice over the threshold. This is done as a sign that even though she is leaving her family that wealth and happiness do not leave her family. Our Shahdi was on July 05, 2004 at the Marriot O'Hare. |
