Research
Thesis topic:
Research Interests:
- I am currently at the proposal stage, where I anticipate defending the proposal in September of 2005.
Collaborations within CTI:
- 2000-2004: Research CSC-699
- 1999: I've repeated CSC-594 with Dr. Lytinen in the Spring of 1999. The focus of the research to investigate how parsing a user question and the comparing it against a "parsed" set of FAQ files might improve match accuracy. I focused on the noun (direct object) in the first attempt. This worked quite well and I found that there are other steps in the match process that might better the match accuracy. I am continuing with this effort and hope to add noun/verb/adjective capability to see how this improves the overall results.
- 1998: I've taken an independent research course with my advisor where
I've have a chance to delve into knowledge representation and natural language
processing. In conjunction with the course I worked on development of a
knowledge base; an N dimensional semantic net. The purpose of the project
was to create a natural language understanding engine. My approach was to
merge a natual language parser (Dr. Lytinen's LINK) with a knowledge base
and reasoning logic. I completed knowledge base but have yet to merge
the other components. The project is still ongoing.
In my object oriented database class, I migrated my knowledge base to an OODB
(O2). My objective is to pursue research in knowledge representation as it specifically relates to natural language understanding
- Spring 1997. Wrote Paper in Dr. Liu's CSC549 class regarding current approaches to massively parallel database systems
Collaborations outside of CTI:
- Chair - DePaul IEEE 2001
- Chair - DePaul IEEE 2002
- Seminar Presentation, Spring 2002 "Firewalls and Network Security - Implementing a LINUX based Firewall"
